MEXICO
I spent several months in Oaxaca, Mexico over the course of 3 years and it well and truly got under my skin. Never have I felt the pulse and energy of a place, of a community, of a landscape so fully as here. I remember the first time I was there, it was a hot sticky summer during the Guelagetza in Oaxaca and seeing the juxtaposition of power between good and evil. Everything there feels heightened, more intense, more colourful, louder, more saturated than back home in Europe. It’s a place I feel fully alive and present in, and I miss it terribly. I’m also conscious of the gentrification that is happening in cities like Oaxaca and I am exploring what it means to travel to places like this moving forwards. How does one travel sustainably and not cause negative impact to local communities?
