When I sit and draw outside I feel a deep connection to the spirit of place. I observe and absorb what i see and feel in that location and the piece of art becomes a translation of my inner and outer worlds.
The joy I feel for being out in the elements is exhilarating, it really brings me alive, and I feel my work has more vibrancy when at least some of it is done in situ. Yet it is not always easy, from working out which materials to take, how much to carry, where to go to the loo, how much time before nursery pick up and where exactly to set up camp, feeling safe in a remote location my own. I’m finding the Scottish weather something to navigate too!
